Explosion vent panels are overpressure protection devices used to protect silos, buildings, and ducts. These devices are sacrificial and non-reclosing, meaning that when the pressure reaches a predetermined value, the panel ruptures to create a safe pressure relief path.
What Are Explosion Vent Panels?
Explosion vent panels are overpressure protection devices used to protect silos, buildings, and ducts. These devices are sacrificial and non-reclosing, meaning that when the pressure reaches a predetermined value, the panel ruptures to create a safe pressure relief path. Once activated, the panel must be replaced. The high response speed and simple, reliable design of KARAJET explosion vent panels (the only manufacturer of Iranian-made explosion vent panels) have made them widely applicable in the oil, gas, petrochemical, chemical, power generation, and other process industries.
Operating Principle
This safety device is designed to remain intact under normal operating conditions and withstand the system's operating pressure.
When the system pressure reaches the specified burst pressure, the panel ruptures along the laser-scored lines incorporated during the design process, creating a path for the rapid and safe discharge of air and gases generated by combustion or an explosion within the system. This helps prevent further damage to the silo or duct being protected.
The performance of an explosion vent panel depends on several parameters, including burst pressure, operating temperature cycle, installation conditions, and the original design.
Key Parameters for Selecting an Explosion Vent Panel
The following information should be evaluated to ensure proper selection:
-
Nominal equipment or line size
-
Connection type
-
Burst pressure
-
Operating pressure
-
Design pressure
-
Operating and design temperatures
-
Required material
-
Corrosion conditions
-
Required venting capacity
-
Requirement for a rupture detection system
-
Applicable standards and project requirements
Construction Materials
The panel material should be selected based on the operating conditions and material availability. In addition to pressure and temperature resistance, the material's resistance to corrosion is also an important consideration.
Applicable Standards for Explosion Vent Panels
The design, selection, and application of explosion vent panels, similar to rupture discs and other pressure protection devices, may be governed by applicable standards, design codes, and project technical specifications.
Depending on the equipment type and project requirements, applicable codes and standards may include ASME requirements and standards related to pressure relief equipment in the oil and gas industries, such as API 520.
The applicable standard or code must be determined based on the project specifications, equipment type, and design requirements.

Iranian Manufacturer of Rupture Discs and Explosion Vent Panels
KARAJET, a knowledge-based company, has more than 30 years of experience in the design and manufacture of process equipment, static mechanical equipment, and pressure protection devices. We are proud to be the first manufacturer of this knowledge-based product in Iran, capable of fully meeting domestic demand and supplying neighboring countries at a lower cost than European and even Chinese alternatives.
How to Request a Quotation and Purchase a Rupture Disc
Step 1: Design
To receive a technical and commercial quotation for a rupture disc, the following information is required:
-
Design pressure, operating pressure, and required burst pressure
-
Design and operating temperatures
-
Required material
-
Whether a holder is required and the applicable design standards
-
Elevation of the plant above sea level
Step 2: Performance Testing
Following approval of the technical proposal and contract, KARAJET undertakes to ensure customer confidence in the performance of the designed panel or disc.
For this purpose, a specified number of additional units, relative to the order quantity, will be manufactured in accordance with the applicable standard. The destructive performance test will then be conducted in a standard test chamber, with the participation of the client's representative and inspector, selected by the client. The test results will be submitted for their review and approval.
